Creation of flagship salon for new business

HSA were commissioned to design the flagship Hairdressing salon for a startup business within an existing building formerly used as a bank. The premises are located on the outskirts of Liverpool City Centre and unlike anything available within the area. The brief was to produce a high quality space with strong identity that would be achievable on a tight budget, by a small contractor.

The use of light and texture within a confined area, results in an elegant and simplistic design and the illusion of space.

The existing reinforced concrete safe, which was physically impossible to remove, has been reused to accommodate back of house functions.  A family of metal and glass objects are designed to create different zones within the salon and storage opportunities for styling equipment and products. A bespoke pegboard is used for displaying photography and products, it also separates the main salon from the more dimly lit and relaxed wash station on a higher level.

Efficiency in both planning and use was considered throughout the design development. The project has strengthened the client’s brand to such an extent that within 6 months of opening they are already considering expansion plans.
